DOHA: Ahmed Abdullah Al Jamal, Chairman of Qatar Customs, honoured ten inspectors who played a crucial role in confiscating and seizing 46-kg of marijuana, 200,000 tablets of captagon drug and two guns with 2500 bullets.
The Customs will witness significant developments strengthening its manpower as part of its efforts to protect the security of the Qatari society and to achieve the goals of the national economy as stated in QNV 2030, said Al Jammal, stressing that all customs officers are well known for their high efficiency and motivation to carry their duties.
The materials which was seized by custom officers at Hamad Internatioanl Airport (HIA) are seven items including “marijuana” with a total weight of 46 kg. Thanks to the custom officers carefulness for seizing these items and after they suspected over some bags of passengers. The marijuana bags found hidden under clothes and were hidden between carbon papers and spice bags.
On the other hand, inspectors were suspected about content of postal mail at the air cargo and private airports and when they opened a parcel in the presence of the offender they found tablets of “captagon” inside hollow plates amounting 200,000 tablets.
The land customs department (Abu Samra check point) also seized two guns (9-mm) in a passenger’s car. They also found an additional store bullet store and 2500 bullets for different type of weapons. The two weapons were concealed next to the engine. The seized materials were transferred to the competent authorities to take legal action against the smugglers.
The cadres of the General Authority of Customs seek to prevent the entry of narcotic and prohibited substances by providing all its air, land and sea ports with the latest and advanced screening devices, which can analyze the components inside the bag. The staff is well trained to use these devices to tighten their monitoring system at all check points of the country.
