QE index drops 166.78 points

DOHA: Qatar Exchange (QE) index dropped 166.78 points or 1.60 percent to close at 10,285.50 points on Thursday. On the weekly basis the index lost 140.47 points or 1.35 percent.

Trading value last week decreased by 8.64 percent to reach QR1.93bn compared to QR2.1bn. Trading volume decreased by 31.26 percent to reach 51.4 million shares, as against 74.8 million shares the previous week, while the number of transactions fell by 11.40 percent, to reach 26,356 last week as compared to 29,748 transactions.

Market capitalisation fell by 0.62 percent to reach QR544.7bn as compared to QR548.08bn at the end of previous week. The banking and financial services sector led traded value last week with 40.78 percent of the total traded value. Industries sector accounted for 20.79 percent. Consumer goods and services sector accounted for 16.12 percent and the real estate sector accounted for 11.54 percent.

The banking and financial services sector led traded volume last week with 34.22 percent of the total. The real estate sector accounted for 21.92 percent. Industries sector accounted for 17.93 percent and consumer goods and services sector 13 percent.

The banking and financial services sector led traded number of transactions last week with 29.74 percent of the total number of transactions. Industries sector accounted for 21.16 percent. Consumer goods and services sector accounted for 16.12 percent and the real estate sector accounted for 15.56 percent.

Of the 43 companies listed, 18 ended last week higher, while 23 fell and two remained unchanged. Masraf Al Rayan led trading value last week and accounted for 14.59 percent of the total trading value. Islamic Group accounted for 9.79 percent and Gulf International Services accounted for 7.90 percent.

The daily turnover yesterday declined to QR338m with a volume of 9.7 million shares from 5,292 deals compared to QR408.73m with a volume of 12.16 million shares from 5,520 deals on Wednesday.

Of the 43 companies listed on QSE, shares of 42 saw trading yesterday. From these seven gained, 29 closed lower and six remained unchanged. Indices of six sectors ended in the red yesterday, barring consumer goods and services which edged up 0.08 percent.

QSE Total Return Index dropped 1.34 percent to 16,516.56 points. QSE Al Rayan Islamic Index dropped 1.40 percent to 3,945.26 points and QSE All Share Index dropped 1.22 percent to 2,830.53 points.
