QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has foiled a bid to smuggle non-duty paid silk fabric, huge quantity of Iranian blankets, and jewelry worth Rs 9.85 million during special checking.
Sources told Customs Today on Friday afternoon, that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle non duty paid silk fabric and huge quantity of Iranian blankets, and jewelry from Quetta to Afghanistan.
He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Shoaib Tanoli and others. The team enhanced the surveillance near Qilla Saifullah Traffic Chowki and started searching of vehicles.
During the search operation, the team intercepted a 20-feet container bearing registration no: BJS-0821 which was going from Quetta to Afghanistan. During the checking, the customs team recovered 300 than of non-duty paid silk, 800 Iranian blankets, and 500 sets of Indian artificial jewelry worth Rs 9.85 million.
The customs team seized all goods and arrested two smugglers. Sources said that after completion of necessary investigation FIR would be lodged against the smugglers.
