KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Quetta foiled two attempts of smuggling and seized 10 kilogram narcotics and more than 70 fake number plates in two different operations.
According to details, Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Junaid Mehmood received a tip-off regarding transportation of smuggled items in a Mazda truck. He immediately constituted a special team comprising Asghar Khan, Shamim Qaiser, Gul Hakim Ali, Imran Baloch and some other staff members of the Customs Preventive. The said team started searching vehicles near Noshki. While searching the vehicle, the team intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no: LA-352. The team recovered 8 kilogram fine quality weed, worth Rs1.2 million, hidden under the sacks of flour and sugar.
The Customs officials confiscated the narcotics and arrested two persons named Akbar Ali, and Sultan and registered a case against the offenders.
Meanwhile, in another operation, the Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) team raided on a warehouse and recovered more than 70 fake number plates. However no one was arrested in this raid.
Sources said that in March 2017, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta confiscated 36,000 liters Iranian diesel, 200 break oil boxes, foreign origin fabric, cigarettes, luxury cars and miscellaneous items worth Rs50 million.
