KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Quetta, during various crackdowns, recovered a huge quantity of fake number plates.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Customs Collectorate Quetta Jahanzeb Abbasi received information that some suspects are planning to smuggle a huge quantity of fake number plates outside Quetta city. He directed the ASO team to use all available resources to foil the attempt. The ASO team comprising Raheel Ali Khan, Inspector Murtaza and others established various checking points at main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.
During the checking of vehicles, ASO team intercepted a truck which was loaded with scrape. When ASO team checked the vehicle thoroughly they recovered 3000 of fake number plates which were tactfully hidden in the secret parts of the vehicle. ASO team seized the number plates and arrested both persons who were boarded on truck besides registering a case of smuggling against them. Arrested accused belonged to Balochistan area.
During another crackdown customs authorities during routine checking of vehicles recovered foreign origin 70 tyres from a vehicle. Sources told Customs today that customs team intercepted a Mazda van and recovered 70 smuggled tyres. The market value of seized tyres is Rs2.5 million in international market. Customs team arrested the persons and registered a case of smuggling against them.
