Shed essential for Peshawar Customs to prevent goods from rain, hot weather

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Collectorate Peshawar urgently needs a shed to prevent goods from rain and hot weather. The goods  worth millions of rupees are lying in open area for examination.

Sources told Customs Today that some time consignments need examination to get clearance for passing GD. At that stage, the customs staff needs to open the container in open area under the sky without any shed.

The process to inspect one container of 20/40 feet full of imported goods needs 24 hour to clear. During this period, the consignment has to be left in open area where sun heat and rain can damage the valueable goods.

The business community of Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa (KPK) who send or received their consignments through dry port Peshawar requested higher authorities to provide the sheds to dry port to prevent the valuables by season’s bad effects.

The importers told Customs Today that most of the time when open containers set in unshed places, our valuable good got swear damages due to hot weather and rainy season, if higher authorities of Pakistan Railway and FBR to give them relive to provide them reasonable sheds to prevent their goods by damaging.

Deputy collector dry port Islamabad also requested by importers and exporters to provide them proper sheds, the customs inspector who inspect the export items under unshed premises of MCC dry port said that it is very difficult to do examine under unshed container, because the inspectors have to spent almost 5 to 6 hours to counting and examining the consignment.

In hot weather it is very difficult to spent hours in the iron made container, direct heat can made sick some of officers who examining the consignment under the unshed premises of Dry port Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar.

The work capacity of examination can improve if higher authorities provide the suitable sheds for dry port Peshawar.
