ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation, FBR Quetta, has showed remarkable performance during the Financial Year 2016-17.
Among all the customs I&I directorates, Quetta has earned second position after Karachi enforcement. The Quetta Directorate has impounded Non-Duty-Paid goods including smuggled vehicles, diesel, petrol, foreign origin cloths, electronics and other items worth Rs1.183billion and got registered 476 cases in FY 2016-17.
During Financial Year 2015-16, Quetta Directorate had seized NDP and smuggled miscellaneous goods valued Rs747.222million and registered 267 cases. Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha and Director General Customs I&I Shukat Ali have lauded the performance and efforts to curb the menace of smuggling and hoped that this exceptional performance will continue in near future.
According to seizure figures, Quetta Directorate has demonstrated 60 percent performance as compared to Financial Year 2015-16. According to details, Quetta Directorate confiscated NDP goods worth Rs40.641million in 29 cases during July 2016 as compared to the same period in 2015 worth Rs116.760million in 33 cases. Likewise in August and September, directorate impounded goods of Rs56.227million and Rs41.890million in 32 and 18 cases as compared to the same period in 2015 worth Rs48.384million and Rs11.378million in 17 and 12 cases.
In October and November 2016, directorate seized goods worth Rs39.912million and Rs110.623million in 19 and 48 cases as compared to the same months in 2015 valued Rs17.900million and Rs48.408million in 19 and 16 cases.
In December2016 and January 2017, directorate made seizures worth Rs103.959million and Rs92.537million in 29 and 33 cases while during the same period in FY2015-16, directorate had confiscated NDP goods worth Rs54.280million and Rs16.030million in 26 and 11 cases.
In February, March, April, May and June 2017, directorate impounded items valued Rs181.171million, Rs173.530million, Rs78.421million, Rs164.579million and Rs99.544million in 268 cases. During FY2015-16, directorate had seized goods worth Rs23.970million, Rs172.488million, Rs71.350million, Rs85.574million and Rs80.698million in total 313 cases.
