QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has surpassed seizures worth 4.10 billion during first four months of Fiscal Year 2021-22.
Sources said that upon the directives of Federal Board of Revenue, Chief Collector of Customs Balochistan Gul Rehman to intensify the anti-smuggling drive, Customs Quetta led by Collector Irfan Javaid, Additional Collector Umer Shafiq, exceeded seizures worth Rs4.10 billion excluding narcotics seizure worth approximately Rs.1 billion.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Collectorate has performed despite all odds, spearheading the anti-smuggling campaign despite severe shortage of human resource and logistics in the largest province of the country with an area of 255,778 Sq Km in jurisdiction of Collectorate of Enforcement, Quetta with hundreds of kacha and pakka routes traversing through its territory.
Seizures in dozens of cases made during the month of October, 2021 only by Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Quetta on its own, without the support and assistance of any other Law Enforcement Agency, comes to Rs1.16 billion. There has not been a single day since July 01, 2021 when a seizure has not been made by the Collectorate.
The seizures figures of the Collectorate during Financial year (July – Oct) 2021-22 are highest in the country in terms of Quantity as well as Value. Seized goods include 680 NCP vehicles including Toyota Land cruiser TZ Model 2010, Toyota Lexus Model 2009, Toyota Cygnus Model 2007 etc., diesel, cloth, betel nut, tyres/tubes, cigarettes, gutka, tea, blankets, medicine etc.
As far as Revenue is concerned, this Collectorate has also made a record collection during July – Oct, 2021-22, worth Rs.0.97 Billion which is 365 percent more than corresponding period of July – Oct, 2020-21, i.e Rs.0.21 billion.
