Quetta I&I foils bid to smuggle chemicals, fertilizer worth Rs9m

QUETTA: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle imported fertilizers packets and different types of chemicals worth Rs 9 million during special checking on Thursday.

Sources told Customs Today that Director I&I Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle a number of fertilizers packets and different types of chemicals out of Quetta.

He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Inspector Waseem Khan, Ziaur Rehman  and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Quetta near Mastung area and started searching of vehicles.

During the search operation, the team intercepted a  truck bearing registration no: QBS-5849 which was going outside of Quetta. During the checking, the customs team recovered 300 packets of foreign fertilizers packets and different kinds of powder and liquid form chemicals worth Rs 9 million including truck being used in smuggling. The customs team seized all items and  arrested three persons include truck driver.
