QUETTA: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle non-duty paid tyres and fancy alloy rims worth Rs 8 million during checking.
Sources told Customs Today on Monday that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle various types of tyres and alloy rims, from Quetta to interior Sindh.
He constituted a raiding team under supervision of Inspector Imran Sheikh of Preventive department and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on Ziarat Highway and started searching vehicles.
During the search operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: GBB-0654 which was heading towards Sindh.
During the checking, the customs team recovered 500 different types of tyres and 50 sets of fancy alloy rims (four pieces in one set) worth Rs 8 million. The customs team seized smuggled goods and arrested two smugglers. Further investigations are still in process till filing of this report.
