RCCI delegation calls on Malaysian envoy, discuss bilateral trade ties

RAWALPINDI: A delegation led by Nadeem Rauf, President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), called on Adam M. Tugio, Ambassador of Malaysia to Pakistan and discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade relations at the Chamber of Commerce level, increase bilateral trade and exchange of delegations.

The delegation included Senior Vice President Asim Mahmood Malik ,Vice President Tallat Awan , former president Mohammad Nasir Mirza and executive members.

Talking to the delegation, Ambassador Adam M. Tugio said that Malaysia and Pakistan have deep and friendly relations. The Ambassador said that Malaysia desired to increase trade ties with Pakistan. Bilateral trade volume though in favor of Malaysia was very low and needed to be increased, he added. Pakistan could take advantage of trade opportunities to increase cooperation in agricultural machinery and pharmaceuticals, he said. The envoy lauded RCCI efforts in promoting regional trade.

RCCI President Nadeem Rauf briefed the Ambassador on the ongoing activities of the Rawalpindi Chamber and said that the Pakistan exports to Malaysia are below $240, which are very low and suggested that there is a need to explore new sectors for joint ventures.

He said there was also a need for exploring new trade avenues, business opportunities between Pakistan and Malaysia.

Bilateral trade in services, Edibles, tourism, halal food and agriculture can be enhanced. He also invited the Ambassador to the Chamber.
