Reconstruction of customs office starts at Torkham‏

KARACHI: The Pakistani authorities have started rebuilding the customs office at Torkham border near Afghanistan.

According to the source, the Customs and other facilities centre situated at the Pak-Afghan border Torkham was badly damaged due to the mortar shells, usage of heavy weapons as well as firing by the Afghan security forces.

The walls of the Customs building, including other important offices were damaged due to sudden and unprovoked shelling by the Afghan security forces at the Torkham border.

On the other hand, the construction of the gate planned by the Pakistani authorities within the limits of the county is also being going on in full swing.

Source said that the Afghanistan authorities do not want Pakistan to build the gate as it will restrict the movements of smugglers, terrorists and illegal visitors into the country.

Pakistan and Afghanistan bordering area Tokham and Landikotal is still under curfew and all the trade and the border crossing activities are in frozen state.

The firing at the Pakistan and Afghanistan border area has now also stopped after the senior government officials of both the countries had a detailed telephonic conversation and assured for the full cooperation to keep peace at any cost.

On the other the traders of both the sides Pakistan and Afghanistan are vemy much eager for early resolving the security issues on permanent basis so that Afghan Transit Trade can resume and people living near the border areas can earn some money and fill the stomach of their children.

The work of rebuilding the Customs Office will be finished within two to three days after which a comprehensive estimation for the calculation of the overall losses will be done buy the concern authority.
