RM1.3m fireworks and illicit cigarettes seized in Kota Belud

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Marine police seized 22,790 contraband cigarettes and 49 boxes of firecrackers and fireworks smuggled in from Mangsi in the Philippines.

Its commander Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Madun said the seizure was made at Kampung Pirasan in Kota Belud on Wednesday morning. “We also arrested a man in his 20s and confiscated a car during the raid.

“Initial investigation shows that both contraband items were kept temporarily at the raided house before being distributed to the market in Kota Marudu, Kudat, Ranau and other districts,” he told a press conference here. Mohammad said the seized items had a value of about RM1.3 million.
