Rs 1,000 billion being spent on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, LNG: Khaqan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday informed the Senate Special Committee that projects worth Rs 1000 billion are continuing for completion of Pakistan Iran gas pipeline and LNG smart gas.

The Special Committee met under the Chairmanship of Senator Zafar Iqbal Jhagra at Parliament House.

The Committee took up the issue of implementation of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) Bill, 2015. This bill provides for levy and collection of the gas infrastructure development Cess.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi informed the Special committee about the recovery of cess arrears and said decision is taken for postponing of recoveries of Cess for three months and further action for cess recoveries would be taken after the decision of committee.

The minister said Rs. 272 billion cess would be collected while half of the amount is already recovered.

Petroleum Ministry Officials informed the Special Committee that NEPRA has allowed collection of GIDC and now Ministry of Water and Power would decide about increase in electricity price.

The Special Committee meeting was attended by Senators Saleem H Mandviwala, Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Saeed Ghani, Usman Kakar, Mohammad Mohsin Khan Leghari, Mohsin Aziz, Muhammad Ali Saif and Secretary Finance Dr. Waqar Masood and officials of Ministry of Petroleum.
