Rs 178.063 million to be spent on shrimp farming project

ISLAMABAD: An amount of Rs. 178.063 million will be spent for the project titled “Shrimp Farming Cluster Development” to enhance supply of raw material for seafood industry.
“This amount has been allocated by the Export Development Board, an attached department of Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Fund and will be spent under the supervision of Fisheries Development Board (FDB)” sources said.
Pakistan earned $ 369 million by exporting frozen and fresh seafood and got $ 19 million as foreign exchange out of export of dried fishmeal for poultry in previous fiscal year 2013-14.
The Ministry of Ports and Shipping had taken numerous steps in collaboration with MoC and other relevant organizations to further enhance fresh and frozen seafood exports.
It is pertinent to note here that Shrimp Farming Cluster Development project is located in Thatha and Baddin Districts of Sindh while key objectives are promotion of fisheries sector though private sector investment in high value aquaculture and shrimp farming systems by establishing cluster of shrimp farms at suitable sites along the coast of Sindh.
