NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir government has said that over Rs 1 billion is pending for recovery from businessmen on account of taxes in the state.
Around Rs. 1,283.07 crore is pending for recovery by Commercial Tax Department and Excise Department in Jammu and Kashmir till end of February 2015, officials of State Finance Department said.
As per the data of Finance Ministry, Rs. 1,235.16 crore is pending on account of arrears recoverable by Commercial Tax department and Rs. 47.91 crore by the Excise department in the state.
Of these, Rs. 674.38 crore is pending in Kashmir and Rs. 560.78 crore is due in Jammu in the accounts of Commercial Tax Department; and similarly, Rs. 41.08 crore is pending in Jammu region and Rs. 6.83 crore in Kashmir in the accounts of Excise Department.
The matters related to recoveries of arrears by the Commercial Tax department from businessmen and traders are subjudice and pending before the High Court.
