LAHORE: Authorities concerned at the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) have directed the tax auditors to expedite the audit of assigned cases.

Sources said that the FBR had allocated tax cases to all regional offices after computerised balloting for auditing.

They said that the sales tax and the income tax audit zones have almost completed the audit work of more than 50 percent cases, and defaulters or fake filings of returns were being examined in selected cases.

Sources added that cases of fake filers have been forwarded to the department for taking legal action against them.

A big chunk of revenue would be generated by auditing the cases of taxpayers who were allegedly involved in tax evasion or any other illegal activity, they added.

Sources also informed that notices were being issued to the filers who were found suspicious during the audit. They said that most of the tax evasion was found in the sales tax.

Authorities have directed a particular zone to complete the audit of assigned cases as soon as possible, sources said.
