Samsung Galaxy S7 to come up with USB Type-C port

LONDON: This year, we’ve finally started seeing the smartphones with USB Type-C, but they are still few and far between. The prominent handsets that don the new ports include the OnePlus 2, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Xiaomi Mi 4i and Xiaomi Mi 4c.

According to a new report from SamMobile, joining this league is the Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7. Sources have confirmed that the Galaxy S7 will come with a USB Type-C port instead of a standard microUSB port.

A USB Type-C port uses a reversible cable so it can be plugged in to a device any which way – just like a-la Apple Lightning. The new port allows devices to charge faster as well as faster data transfer than USB 3.0.

Samsung has already tweaked its flagships for fast charging thanks to Qualcomm Quick Charge technology. So it would interesting to see if the company ditches its fast charging tech in favor of a reversible cable.

As for the specifications, the Galaxy S7 is rumored to feature a metallic outer-body. It will either run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC or a new Samsung Exynos SoC.

The high-end smartphone is alleged to feature two display sizes, one measuring 5.2-inches and the other 5.8-inches. Some sources also claim that the S7 will sport an Ultra HD display (4K) but it’s unclear if both models will come with this insane resolution.

If an earlier report is to be believed, the Galaxy S7, unlike the recently-released Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 edge+, will allow users to expand its memory via an external microSD card. The rumor also speculates that the handset will come in two internal storage variants: the 32GB and 64GB options.
