Sargodha ASO foils smuggling attempt, recovers ceramic tiles

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Sargodha foiled a smuggling attempt and confiscated non-duty paid ceramic tiles worth Rs0.58 million involving duty and taxes of Rs1,58,560 and impounded the offending Mazda truck Rs1 million.

According to the details, Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received credible information regarding transportation of smuggled items. He immediately formed a special team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Bashir Hussain, Bashir Ahmed, Sepoys Muhammad Mansha, Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Iqbal to foil the smuggling attempt.

The ASO team started searching vehicles near Bypass Chowk, Lahore road, Sargodha. During checking, the ASO team intercepted a Mazda mini truck bearing registration no: STK-737 loaded with 558 meters foreign origin ceramic tiles. The team asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the ceramic tiles.

The driver, who was later identified as Haji Ahmad son of Sultan Ahmad a resident of Sargodha, remained failed to provide any required document. After his failure the ASO team confiscated the loaded tiles along with the offending vehicle.

The ASO team registered a case of smuggling against the accused under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 and forwarded the case to the customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
