Sargodha Customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs250m

SARGODHA: In recent developments, a nationwide crackdown on smuggling operations has delivered promising outcomes, marking a substantial decline in illicit trade activities nationwide. Through intensified enforcement efforts and collaborative strategies, Customs authorities Sargodha have effectively curbed the influx of contraband goods, safeguarding national interests and bolstering both economic stability and security.

Talking with Customs Today Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi has said that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have implemented rigorous surveillance protocols at all entry points, including borders, ports, and airports, resulting in interception of numerous illegal shipments. Utilizing cutting-edge technology and intelligence-driven approaches, authorities have successfully identified and apprehended key players within smuggling networks, dismantling organized crime rings and disrupting their illicit operations.

In a decisive crackdown on smuggling operations, Customs anti-smuggling squads in Sargodha have intercepted illicit goods worth Rs250 million. Led by Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi and Deputy Collector Dr. Jehangir, the operation signifies a major victory against illicit trade in the region.

Executed in close coordination with directives from the Collector Enforcement Sargodha, the operation led to the apprehension of one suspect and the confiscation of a substantial quantity of contraband items. Among the seized goods were 35,320 kilograms of betel nuts, 14,322 kilograms of art silk fabric, 2,500 kilograms of contraband salt, and 1,230 kilograms of sodium glutamate (China salt). Additionally, customs officials seized 400 cartons of Milano and Pine brand cigarettes, alongside various other smuggled commodities.

Member Customs Dr. Farid Iqbal also reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the security of the nation’s borders. He emphasized the determination of customs authorities to dismantle smuggling networks and enforce strict compliance with customs regulations. The operation, meticulously planned and executed with extensive intelligence gathering and surveillance, underscores the agency’s resolve to protect the nation’s economic interests.

Further investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the smuggling network. Customs officials remain vigilant in their efforts to safeguard citizens from the harmful effects of illicit trade, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining the integrity of the nation’s trade borders.
