Saud Imran’s Customs Intelligence impounds non-duty paid Mark-X from Johar Town

LAHORE: Customs Intelligence and investigation on Wednesday impounded a Mark-X car from Johar Town, sources told Customs Today.

The sources said that on information of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director Saud Imran, the car cell of the directorate formed a team under the supervision of Director Usman Bajwa to seize the car.

The sources said that the team intercepted the car in Q Block which was being driven by a property dealer, Akhtar Awan.

The car cell team demanded documents from the driver of the car but he failed to produce legal documents, the source said, adding that being fully satisfied that the driver was not holding any document and that the vehicle was non customs paid and being played on fake number plate no AQX 444 finally seized the car.  The estimated value of the car is Rs 2 million.

The sources said that the car would be auctioned in open bid following the completion of customs formalities at the directorate.

The source said that team that was raided consisted of Inspector car cell Muratab Mushataq, Aftab, Salim Hashmi, Asif Gujar, Arshad Bhatti, and others. The Customs authorities registering case has started further investigation in to the case.

Meanwhile, Collectorate of Customs Adjudication declared the seizure of Toyota Land Cruiser, bearing chassis number UZJ100-0136229 as legal.  The collectorate examined the case record and heard the oral argument put forth by the seizing agency.

The respondents neither responded to the show cause notice nor appear to defend their case despite they were provided ample time and opportunity of hearing providing the fact that they had nothing to produce in their defense. The adjudication department in its verdict said that due to the reason the charges leveled against them in show case stand established.

The adjudiation deparment in their verdict added that consequently he ordered that the Land Cruiser was outrightly confiscated under clause (89) of section 156(1) of the Customs Act 1969.
