RIYADH: There has been substantial growth in international traffic from the Kingdom’s domestic airports last year, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The number of international flight services from the domestic airports jumped by 51.5 percent to 26,361 at the end of 2015 from 17,405 in 2014.
Prince Naif Airport in Al-Qassim ranked first among domestic airports with a growth of 55.5 percent or 7,418 international flights last year. Other domestic airports recorded substantial increase in the number of international services, according to statistics released by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
The GACA report showed that there was an increase of 40.2 percent in the volume of international traffic from the domestic airports, with the number of passengers reaching 2,913,194 by the end of 2015, compared to 2,077,659 during the year 2014.
The most favored destinations were the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, Yemen and Turkey. The report also pointed that there has been a qualitative improvement in the services being extended to the passengers at the airports.
