PERTH: For his Earth Art series Scott Kelly took 17 images in a single pass over Australia from the International Space Station
An American astronaut has shared other-worldly images he captured of Australia from the International Space Station.
Scott Kelly, who is spending a year orbiting the Earth on the station, took 17 photographs of the continent on a single pass.
He posted the images, taken from 250 miles up, to his half a million followers on Twitter as part of his Earth Art series. They show features of the Australian landscape taken as he moved from the south of the country to the north-east.
Included among the stunning shots are ones of the outback desert, coastlines and lakes.
Colours in some of the images have been enhanced.
The photographs are among hundreds Kelly has taken and sent back to Earth.
He is spending a year on the space station as part of an experiment in which Nasa is monitoring the effects on his body of being there for an extended period of time.
When he returns he will be compared to his twin brother Mark who is also an astronaut but remained on Earth.
