Shaheen Air allegedly evades over Rs 4b taxes

KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I has revealed that a total of alleged tax evasion amount against Shaheen Air International Limited is calculated at Rs 4.145 billion from 2008 to 2014.

Sources informed Customs Today that the total evaded duty/taxes by Shaheen Air during the period of 2008 to 2014 have been calculated at Rs 3.943 billion against 26 aircrafts.
It further disclosed that the duty against other 12 aircrafts has been calculated at Rs 202 million which makes the total evaded amount at Rs 4.145 billion.
“The recoverable amount against nine aircrafts out of total 47 could not be calculated as the record in this respect was not available with the Air Freight Unit (AFU), import section and JIAP” they added.
The Collectorate of Adjudication-I has reportedly issued show-cause notices to Shaheen Air and other alleged tax evaders, asking them to appear on August 26.
The sources confirmed Customs Today that the said case of tax evasion has got exceptional significance due to involvement of the huge amount of Rs 4.145 billion as tax evasion.
