KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed customs officials to release imported smart watches Bluetooth, earphones, hand frees, earphones covers and other related goods after securing of differential amount on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Unitech Industry Services
On 21 February 2022 a two-member bench heard the matter, during the hearing, counsel for the petitioner argued that petitioner imported smart watches Bluetooth, earphones, hand frees, earphones covers and other related goods and filed a goods declaration according to law.
He added the despite goods declaration, customs officials assessed on very high value undisputed items are US$ 0.25/item, US$ 0.05/item, US$ 1.0/item and same are assessed on US$ 1.25, US$ 1.0, US$ O.10/item and US$ 1.0/item respectively.
After his arguments, court directed customs officials to released above-mentioned goods after securing differential amounts on shape of bank guarantee/ pay order. Court also directed them to make sure filing their respective para wise comments for next date of hearing.
Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement Jinnah International Airport (AFU) as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court may declare that act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.
He also pleaded the court may direct them to release petitioner’s imported goods and restrain them from taking any adverse action against the petitioner till final judgment in this case.
