KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) took serious notice of 32 carelessly drafted special customs reference applications (SCRAs) filed by Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East & West, Directorate of Customs Valuation and Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigations (I&I).
According to the details, the respondents include M/s SEZ Ltd, Lahore, M/s UK Traders, M/s International Steel Ltd, Karachi and others. The SCRAs were filed through Mr. Faheem Raza Advocate while respondents are represented by former Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan.
The bench also noted that a number of questions of law were suggested but the same were not properly drafted. Neither the court is supposed to answer as many as a dozen questions in Reference Jurisdiction. The bench also held that it reflects on competency of the department in future if such questions of law are placed before this court.
The bench further stated that in such a case cost will be imposed and reference will be dismissed for want of proper prosecution.
The bench with the above observations, disposed off the SCRAs.
