SHC issues notice on petition seeking release of Toyota Land Crusier

KARACHI: The Sindh high Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Customs Department and its counsel on a constitutional petition filed by Amanullah, seeking release of his Toyota Land Cruiser jeep seized by customs officials for being smuggled/ non-duty paid vehicle.

While hearing of the petition, a two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omer Sial, also directed the customs officials to file their para wise comments on the next date of hearing. The court adjourned the matter.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner purchased the vehicle after fulfillment of all legal formalities and he was the lawful owner of the vehicle. However, the customs authorities seized his vehicle without showing any lawful reason.

Petitioner said that he moved concern authorities and produced all legal documents of the said vehicle, however, customs officials denied his request for release the same, after that he moved an appeal before customs appellate tribunal for release of his vehicle which directed concerned officials to release the same, however, they are not following the order of the appellate tribunal.

Citing customs officials as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to direct them to release his lawful vehicle immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action till final order in this petition.
