KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday postponed the hearing of more than 20 cases related to customs and income tax due to the boycott of lawyers on the call of Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association against the kidnapping of senior lawyer Ibrahim Abro Advocate, who was allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) were informed that lawyers bodies had announced a full day strike against abduction of the advocate and the judges were requested to postpone the cases. The courts postponed the hearing of more than 20 cases related to custom and income tax without any proceedings.
According to the roster, the SHC two-member bench, comprising Justice Irfan Sadat Khan and Justice Arshad Hussain Khan, could not take up the cases filed by Mobile Traders, Lahore, M/s Bin Qasim Package Pvt Ltd, ATM Industries Pvt Ltd, M/s Invest & Finance Securities, Airwaves Media Pvt Ltd, Muhammad Shaikh Abdul Latif, M/s CNG 2000, Model Customs Collectorate collector verus the Customs Appellate Tribunal bench-I & others, M/s Mishanz Pvt Ltd and others.
Another bench, comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah and Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, could not proceed with the cases filed by Hum Network Ltd, DHL Global Farwarding Pakistan, Indus Motor Company Pvt Ltd, Parazelsus Pakistan Pvt Ltd and others.
The court will resume hearing of cases today (Friday), while the case scheduled for Thursday will be heard on new dates issued by the court office. The lawyers have urged the government to take stern action against the culprits involved in heinous crime.
