SHC seeks reply from Appraisement-West, Adjudication-I in seizure case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court ( SHC ) seeks comments from Revenue Division secretary, Appraisement-West, Customs Adjudication-I additional collector as well as deputy attorney general on a constitution petition filed by M/s Mukhtar Soap and Oleo Chemicals, seeking release of consignment consisting of “low grade soap noodles”.

A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the petition.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel stated that petitioner imported a consignment of “low grade soap noodles” from Malaysia through its supplier in Singapore, carrying 100 MT at the rate of $410/MT and filed goods declaration dated March 31, 2016.

According to the petitioner, after the fulfilled all requirements sought release of said consignment but officials of the customs authority seized the goods. The petitioner was informed through examination report that a commercial invoice showing higher unit price than declared was found for which the container has been seized.

Counsel added that petitioner is facing heavy losses. Therefore, the court may direct the respondents to release the consignment of the petitioner and restrain the respondents from taking any coercive action against the petitioner.
