SHC seeks comments on petition filed by M/s Zahid Traders

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed Ministry of Law and Federal Investigation Agency and others to file their respect para wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by Syed Zahid Hassan for Zahid Traders against lodging first information report over alleged mis-declaration/ smuggling of urea/ fertilizer products.

On 9 October 2021, a two-member bench, comprising Justice Shafi Muhammad Siddiqui and Justice Faisal Agha heard the matter.

During the hearing, deputy attorney general appeared before the court and sought time for submission of comments from respondents.

Counsel for the petitioner argued that petitioner is doing lawful business in the name of Zahid Traders and never has been involved in any crime, tax evasion etc and always fulfilled all the legal formalities according with law.

He added that due to an emergent domestic shortage, the trading corporation imported a large amount of urea to be distributed nationally through national fertilizer marketing limited, however, respondents have started an inquiry and after the inquiry a first information report (FIR) was lodged against the importers.

Citing Ministry of Law, Federal Investigation Agency, Trading Corporation of Pakistan Logistic and Transport as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court that petitioner has no role for importing and distribution of above-mentioned urea, therefore, court may restrain respondents, inquiry officer not to include to name of petitioner in first information report and ECL as well.
