KARACHI: Sindh High Court has set aside conviction sentence of an appellant in a betel nut smuggling case.
A SHC appellate bench, headed by Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar, has allowed the criminal acquittal appeal and set aside conviction and sentence awarded to appellant Ilyas.
Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate appearing for the appellant submitted that the accused has no connection with the smuggling. He was not arrested from the border area but from a busy city area. He had no connection with the load in the vehicle/truck said to be driven by him. The main accused including alleged smuggler has been left off the hook and appellant was framed.
The bench, after hearing both the sides, allowed the appeal setting aside the 18 months sentence awarded to the accused.
