SHC summons alleged vehicle’s smuggler

ISLAMABAD: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notice to the M/S Abdul Shakoor Daper on an application of the Hyderabad Customs collector in an alleged smuggled vehicle case.

While hearing an application, SHC Judge Justice Munib Akhter directed the respondent to make sure the submission of comments on next hearing.

Earlier, the counsel of the applicant stated that on a secret information, Customs Anti-Smuggling team held check post at city point Sukkur bypass and intercepted a vehicle, Toyota Hiace. On physical examination of vehicle, the chassis number was found doubtful and eventually the vehicle was found smuggled one.

After impounding the vehicle, the alleged smuggler filed an appeal before the Customs Appellate Tribunal which was accepted and the tribunal ordered to release the said vehicle.

The customs’ counsel asked the SHC to declare impugned order of the Customs Appellate Tribunal as unjust, unfair and unlawful otherwise department will suffer an irreparable loss.
