KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) suspended a verdict passed by Custom Appellate Tribunal, Karachi directing release of goods imported by M/s`Malik Resource Recycling Limited, Gujranwala.
The bench was informed that Customs Appellate Tribunal has issued contempt notices summoning higher customs officers despite filing of the Special Customs Reference Application (SCRA) by Collectorate of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim (PMBQ).
The case pertains to import of brand new compressors of Hermetic brand 128 pieces and others while declaring the same as Iron and Steel Remeltable Compressor Scrap weighing 18584 kilograms.
During physical examination it was detected that high value and high duty goods were not declared in the Goods Declaration (GD).
The tribunal gave its decision on the basis of a Local Commission Report. The commission was appointed by the tribunal to ascertain the factual aspect of the controversy.
The SHC bench while suspending the verdict also ordered issuance of notice of questions of law proposed by the applicant department in the SCRA.
