Sher Shah Railway link to help promote business activities: Deputy Collector Muhammad Ali Malik

MULTAN: The establishment of Sher Shah Railway link at the Multan Dry Port is need of the hour to promote business activities in southern Punjab, said Deputy Collector Multan Dry Port Muhammad Ali Malik on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with Customs Today, he said that Multan Dry Port offers appropriate facilities to importers and exporters and asked the business community to utilise clearance facilities at the port.

Malik said that the Multan Customs was providing opportunities of swift clearance of consignments; therefore, the importers and exporters preferred to clear their shipments from Multan Dry Port.

The construction of Sher Shah bonded cargo link will provide services to importers and exporters on their doorstep which will save their time and money. He said that Multan Dry Port is covering almost 50 percent اof Punjab province due to its graphical importance. It is our prime task to bring more revenue in the Multan customs through our indigenous services. He told that development of Sher Shah Railway will change the whole scenario of the business activities after its development and it will Multan Customs Highest revenue generation in the country due to handling of bulk quantity of containers from Multan Dry Port.

He told that multi-mode transportation hub for the clearance of import and export consignments will launch in Multan Customs and after that this region see new era of development which will flourish the business activities as well as employment opportunities in the region.

This Railway link will provide opportunity to business community for clearance of import and export consignment from Multan Dry Port due to almost 60 % reduced freight charges. He emphasized that Sher Shah Railway junction project is facing unnecessary delay from government and stakeholders due to lack of investment on the infrastructure development .The delayed in the constructing of Sher Shah bonded carrier service have also raised the development cost of the project. Deputy Collector Malik said that delay in the development project of Sher Shah bonded carrier gives impression that it has been sent into cold shelves due to negative response of Multan Dry Port Trust.

He informed that Railway link near Multan Dry Port is ready to provide the services to their importers and we need private public partnership to initiate this service.

The development cost of the Sher Shah Railway link has been reached to almost Rs1 billion from million due to delay in the project. The Customs Collect orate required one billion investments to establish Railway link for the bounded cargo.

Deputy Collector Muhammad Ali Malik told that Multan Dry Port needs private public partnership for the investment at mass transit project of Sher Shah Railway bonded.

In the conclusion he stressed that we need to get rid of all hurdles for the development mega project of Sher Shah Railway bonded project because it will generate revenue as well as business activities.
