SIALKOT: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sialkot has seized huge quantity of smuggled ceramic tiles during an action.
The smuggled ceramic tiles were loaded on a Mazda truck. The loaded smuggled ceramic tiles were being transported from Balochistan and tiles were of the Iranian origin.
Sources told Customs Today that Custom Collector Ahmed Reza Khan received credible information regarding smuggled ceramic tiles.
Following the directions of Assistant Collector Palwasha Sayed, Additional Collector Faiz and Fahad Bashir conducted the operation against the smuggled tiles. The inspector Mansha performed the operation with ASO team and sepoy.
Sources told the ASO already deployed staff on the route which was being used for smuggling. The ASO authorities seized the tiles through successful crackdown. Owner of the smuggled ceramic tiles failed to provide any legal documents to customs staff for evidence. Source told Customs Today that a huge quantity of Iran origin ceramic tile were seized during the operation along with the Mazda truck. The total values of the seized ceramic tile during action were almost Rs 4.5 million.
An advance information report has been lodged against the smuggled goods after seizing. Further investigations were under process against smuggled goods.
Taking legal action, customs officials seized the smuggled tiles and impounded the truck under Section 168 and 157(2) of the Customs Act, 1969, for violation of Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act, 1969, read with Section 3(1) 3 of Import and Export (Control) Act, 1950. Meanwhile, the customs authorities have served a notice on the consignee under Section 171 of the Customs Act, 1969, through the truck driver, while further investigations are underway.
