SIALKOT: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Zone-II has confiscated Indian origin red chilli and readymade children garments recovered from a bus during an action on Grand Trunk (GT) Road.
Reportedly, ASO Zone-II incharge Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro deputed Inspector Arshad Hussain Mayo on GT Road and instructed him to check the vehicles in order to curb smuggling in guise of Kashmir Transit Trade.
The said inspector along with his team started checking of vehicles when the team intercepted a bus, which was coming from Mirpur (AJK) and going to Sialkot, for checking that led to the recovery of Indian red chilli and stitched clothes for children worth Rs 100,000.
The team asked driver named Abdul Aziz about booking documents of recovered items but he could not produce the same. The driver revealed that the sair items were booked from the General Bus Stand of Mirpur (AJK).
Therefore, the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws, but released the driver after proper interrogation. The customs also served notice on manager of Mirpur Bus Stand and referred the case to adjudication for further legal action.
The ASO team has vowed to curb the smuggling at levels under the campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
