Sialkot Customs collects Rs 17m on imported consignments in two months

SIALKOT: The Model Customs Collectorate Sialkot has collected Rs 17 million on imported consignments during September and October of the current fiscal year 2016-17.

Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Chaudhary said that various consignment, including scrap, leather material, iron, plastic, zips, vehicles, raw material etc were imported through Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) and Sialkot International Airport from various countries.

He said that the customs officials after reviewing the filed documents and examining the consignments imposed import duty, which has been fixed by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and collected it from the importers.

He said that the Sialkot Customs collected Rs 17 million from importers during the said period, adding that rate of duty/taxes was imposed according to law. He said that the customs was warmly well come to importers so that the importers must import their consignments through SDPT and Sialkot International Airport Limited.

He said that the import through SDPT is much better while the customs department was trying to facilitate the importers at maximum level. He said that the various importers were defaulters of duty/taxes and the department had issued legal notices to them for recovery.

If the importers do not pay the outstanding taxes, the department will take stern action but after sending a final notice, he said, adding that Sialkot Customs has decided that the any import or export consignment will not be cleared till the payment of complete charges and duties. He informed that all defaulters will have to bear the full weight of law under Customs Act, 1969.
