Sialkot Customs collects Rs 2.8m at GPO during Aug-Oct

SIALKOT: The Model Customs Collectorate Sialkot collected around Rs 2.8 million in wake of duty/taxes levied on cargo booked through the General Post Office (GPO), Sialkot, from August to October 2016.

The Sialkot Customs collected Rs 1.867 million as duty/taxes during the same period of the last year 2015-16. Officials said that the customs has appointed special teams at the Sialkot GPO to monitor cargo in order to eliminate smuggling of illegal items, adding that the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) was vigilant against the movement of notified items through the GPO.

Customs Superintendent Muhammad Jaan who is responsible for the collection of duty/taxes at the GPO said that measures were being taken to improve revenue collection. He added that the Sialkot Customs contributed reasonable amount of revenue to national kitty during outgoing fiscal year 2015-16.

He said that the officers of the regions were working hard under the competent authority of Collector Ahmad Reza to achieve target set for new fiscal year 2016-17, adding that the performance of the staff was satisfactory in first four months of the year. Federal Board f Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and customs high ups have appreciated the performance and working of the Sialkot Customs.
