SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala division team has confiscated a huge quantity of Indian origin red chillies and shoes worth Rs 300,000 on GT Road Gujranwala the other day .
Sources told Customs Today that Superintendent Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Akmal, following the directions of Assistant Director Zainab Mehmood, constituted a team under the supervision of Inspectors Majid Raza and Mian Muhammad Yousaf to check vehicles on GT Road to curb smuggling. Both inspectors along with their team members comprising havaldar Babar, Rehmat, and Nabi Ahmed started checking vehicles on the road.
During the checking, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration no.AJK-06-2354-4 which was coming from Mirpur (AJK). The team members searched the truck and recovered four bags of smuggled Indian origin red chillies and 120 pairs of Indian shoes. When the team asked the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Aziz, about documents proving legal possession of the items he failed to show any relevant documents.
He said that is he is just a driver of truck while these items were booked from Mirpur (AJK) and as the driver he was bound to deliver these items at Lahore but he did not know that these goods are being smuggled.
The team confiscated the red chillies and shoes and released driver after proper interrogation. The team registered a case against the owner of the smuggled goods and forwarded the case to customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department gears up their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
