KARACHI: Shabir Soomro, the head of property tax unit of the  Sindh Excise and Taxation Department, has said that property tax is the need of the hour and the department has imposed 16 percent of GST on commercial properties in different areas of Sindh.
He said that imposition of tax on commercial properties will help increase government revenue. He said that most of factories, which are constructed on commercial plot in Sindh, are avoiding paying property tax.
He said the department has decided to take strict action against these tax evaders to collect all tax including 16 percent of GST from the non-taxpayers. He said property tax survey was a good step which results an increase in tax revenue.
He said that Sindh government is expecting to recover Rs 5 billion of revenue by imposing 16 percent GST tax on commercial property.
