Sindh Excise moves IR Tribunal against deduction of Rs 6.1b WHT

KARACHI: The Sindh government has filed an appeal before the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) against deduction of Rs 6.13 billion in the wake of withholding tax from the accounts of Excise and Taxation Department, it is learnt.

In this regard, the Excise and Taxation Department has filed an appeal before the appellate tribunal with submission to return Sindh’s money at the earliest, according to sources.

“If the tribunal fails to provide relief to Sindh, we will approach superior judiciary to get justice,” the provincial government said.

Talking to Customs Today, Excise and Taxation Director General Shabir Shaikh said the FBR has deducted at least Rs 6 billion at sources from the accounts of excise under the head of withholding tax.

“The officials of excise and finance department of the Sindh government have prepared a working paper and the case would be put before the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his ongoing visit to federal capital”, he said.
