‘Smooth transportation of transit goods supporting economic uplift of country’

PESHAWAR: The Collector Customs, Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar, Qurban Ali Khan has said the customs administration of Pakistan is playing a prominent role in the smooth transportation of transit goods among the provinces which is supporting the economic development of Pakistan.

Speaking at the MCC Peshawar, he said on Thursday that the transit not only enables the goods to reach the destinations but it also draws provinces and countries closer to each other in the economic, political and social terms.

The customs rules work for the improvement of transit systems, simplification and its harmonization and the capacity building initiatives to support the concerted effort for an enhancement of revenue.

Collector Qurban Ali Khan expressed these views in a meeting with a delegation from Pakistan Customs in Peshawar. The need of hour is to understand the global scenario for enhancement of trade and transit activities among different countries.

The China Pakistan Economic Corridor, in this way, is a crucial project for Pakistan and China in order to lay out a new trade line which will also make old infrastructure new for the smooth flow of goods.

He further said the transit guidelines, issued by the World Customs Organization, contain 150 guiding principles and a variety of practical experiences of implementing efficient transit regimes. For the reason, time has come to take good initiatives for increasing the trade and transit sources for collection of large revenue.

Talking about Pakistan-Afghanistan Trade and Transit route to reach central Asia, he said this will not only benefit the governments of both countries but will also create the opportunities for the transporters to earn extra revenue.
