Smuggled goods worth Rs 96.2m seized in March, April

LAHORE: The Customs intelligence and investigations seized smuggled goods, vehicles worth Rs 96.2 million during March and April 2016.

Newly posted Deputy Director Customs Intelligence Multan Naveedur Rahman said that 36 cases had been registered against smugglers since the day he took over charge of his new assignment in March 2016.

He said that the department in cooperation with officials posted at Dera Ghazi Khan and Sadiqabad region detected 25 cases of smuggled vehicles worth Rs 41.2 million during the period.

Naveedur Rehman said that customs had also detected a technique of smugglers apply for trafficking of diesel showing it as black oil to avoid tax payment. Smugglers used to mix diesel in black oil and after reaching the destination they separated diesel from black oil chemically.

Other smuggled goods including tyres, welding rods, mobile phones, auto parts, chargers, rims and diesel worth over Rs 55 million were also taken into custody and eleven cases were registered against smugglers.

He said customs was determined to unfold and check all deceiving tactics of smugglers to stop leakage of revenue.
