The vessel has been named Severnaya Dvina after the river in the European part of Russia which flows into the Dvina Bay of the White Sea near Arkhangelsk and Severodvisk. Rosmorport is going to use the ship for maintenance dredging to ensure safe navigation within the water area and at the approaches to the seaport of Arkhangelsk.

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem (Netherlands) won the open tender in 2013 following which a contract was signed with FSUE Rosmorport for designing and construction of a dredging vessel.
