TOKYO: The T3 was first released using Android 4.4.2 as its platform but the tech magnate has decided to give the device a minor bump. Users of the Xperia T3 will now be able to enjoy the Android 4.4.4, the last variation of KitKat. While some have expected that the smartphone would also have the Lollipop upgrade, some say that the KitKat upgrade is not that bad.

A logo of Sony Corp is pictured at an electronic store in Tokyo May 14, 2014. Sony Corp said on Wednesday it expects to log a 50 billion yen ($489 million) net loss this financial year, its sixth in seven years, and plans additional restructuring measures that include its loss-making PC operations.

According to Techno Buffalo, the KitKat upgrade comes in different versions and will be applicable to different models of the Xperia T3. Owners of the D5103 and D5106 will have the 18.1.A.2.25 as their new build number, while owners of the D5102 will have the18.1.A.2.32 as their new build number. However, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, isn’t that big but it includes some bug fixes, security patches and Bluetooth Unlock feature.

As a quick review, the Xperia T3 comes equipped with a 5.3-inch 720p display, a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 2500mAh battery, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage plus microSD support up to 32GB and LTE support.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade for the Xperia T3 has been seen rolling out in both India and Russia. Geeky Gadgets also reports that the software upgrade might also roll out in other countries.

There are a couple of ways owners can have the update for their Sony Xperia T3. First, is to wait for the OTA update notification to be pushed to the device. Android updates are rolled-out in batches so if the device is eligible, the device will prompt its owner. Additionally, most Android smartphones automatically check for updates once every 24-48 hours and owners have the option to manually check by going into the settings of the Xperia T3, then tapping on About Phone and finally tapping on the Software Updates option.

Finally, Xperia T3 owners who haven’t received the update should not worry since the process is not instant and may take a few days to finish. Sony has confirmed that its entire Xperia Z series will get a Lollipop update but the company has not confirm its plans for other devices.
