LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended the date of hearing of a case of gold smuggling till next Monday. The accused will also be charged with the crime on the same day.
He was held by the customs authorities at the Lahore Airport.
Sources told Customs Today that a suspect, Ibrar Islam, was apprehended by the Customs Preventive at the Allama Iqbal International Airport while he was travelling to Muscat. During a search of his luggage, the customs officials found 550 gram gold that he was trying to smuggle from Lahore into the gulf state. The customs registered a case against Ibrar and seized the gold.
The Customs Investigation and Prosecution team presented him before the customs court and sought his physical remand that the court approved for three days.
The customs authorities have lodged a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
Meanwhile on Saturday, a number of cases were adjourned for next dates because of a strike against the dysfunction of Lahore High Court Multan bench. The Multan bench of the Lahore High Court was shifted to Lahore after a misbehaving case of a senior lawyer in Multan. Chief Justice Lahore High Court took action against that incident and shifted the Multan bench to Lahore for the case hearings.
The Punjab Bar Council had also announced a full-day strike across the Punjab to show solidarity with the lawyers of Multan. On Saturday, a number of cases in the Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling were postponed for new dates because the customs court lawyers also boycotted the court partially.
