Special Judge Syed Faiz seeks challan in cell phones smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the investigation officer to submit challan in a case mobile phones smuggling.

Earlier, the Customs Court had rejected the bail application of accused namely as Umar Khan son of Walliyat Khan and Waseem Butt son of Imtiaz Butt. However, Sindh High Court (SHC) had granted the bail to both accused who are nominated in the case.

According to the prosecution, both the accused persons submitted goods declaration through Adeel Baig before Jinnah International Airport, Karachi duty collector along with list of IMEI numbers.

On scrutiny of Import documents, the documents did not match, relate and support the legal import of the impugned goods proving that the goods were smuggled one and brought into Karachi with the intention of disposed of the same in the local market for pecuniary gains.

A Case No 09/2016-JIAP was registered under Section 156 (1) (8) & (89) of the Customs Act, 1969 after arresting the accused persons.
