COLOMBO: Sri Lanka Customs officials have found 1.4 kilograms of heroin in an airplane arrived at Colombo International Airport from Dubai Friday early morning. Customs Media Spokesmen Dharmasena Kahandawa said the heroin stock worth was detected after a flight attendant informed of a suspicious package left in the plane’s lavatory. Flight crew have found the package in the lavatory after the passengers have deplaned the flight and informed the Customs officers, the spokesman said. He said four packets of high quality heroin with a value over Rs. 14 million was found packed inside a baggage.
“The plane had come from Dubai via the Maldives. We suspect two Pakistani nationals must have attempted to smuggle in the contraband,” he said. However the Custom officers could not arrest them, he said adding that the suspects may have disembarked at the Maldives.The spokesman said the investigations to arrest the suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.The heroin packets were handed over to Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
