The sources said that the director general has suggested this after an importer and his agent tried to use “green channel” to get their consignment cleared. Sources said that FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and other senior officers would consider the suggestion and the ministries of commerce and finance would also be taken into confidence on the issue.

It is pertinent to mention here that Customs I&I-Enforcement had foiled an attempt to evade duty and taxes of Rs 9.3 million at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim. The incident raised many questions regarding clearance of the consignment through “green channel. The sources revealed that the FBR would also discuss change in clearance system with the top ranked officers of the Pakistan Customs.

Sources said that due to strict checking measures smuggling attempts are being decreased. Sources said that after considering all the measures with top government officials these measures will be adopted for clearance of goods from green channel. Sources said that new measures will pave the way for smooth and quick clearance of imported consignments.
