Strict actions to stop drug sales near educational insititutions: President

COLOMBO: National Drug Prevention Program has drawn a special attention on preventing the selling of illicit drugs near schools targeting the school children, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President also emphasized that the laws will be strictly enforced against those who involved in drug smuggling to protect our future generation.

He made these remarks participating at the annual prize giving ceremony of the Kathaluwa Central College.

The students of the school warmly welcome the President when he arrived at the school. President Sirisena declared open the newly built Technology Lab of the Kathaluwa Central College.

The President also laid the foundation stone for the new sport complex and unveiled the plaque. He presented prizes and certificates to the students who demonstrated exceptional skills in the school.

President Sirisena presented trophies to the students who won the all-island School Cricket Sub-Championship and the Championship of the All-Island Dancing Competition.

The Principal of the school Mr. Samarasiri Wewalwala presented a souvenir to the President on this occasion.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister Chandima Weerakkody, dignitaries including Mr. Chandralal Abeygunawardena and Mr. Wijayapala Hettiarachchi also participated.
